Altazimuth mount – simple type of mount with two motions (up & down and side to side). Good for terrestrial viewing and scanning the sky at lower power levels. Not good for deep sky photography.

Equatorial mount – two perpendicular axes with the left to right axis tilted so it’s parallel to the Earth’s axis. Only this axis needs to be rotated. This type of mount is best for long exposure photography but is not suitable for terrestrial use.
